Night in the Forest

a)  Use the ideas from Night in the Forest to explain how birds, insects, and bats find food at night.     Fill in the chart. Write one idea for each bullet point. The first one has been done for you.

Can smell food / worms through its nostrils at the end of its nose.

b)  Give the meaning of the word that is underlined in these parts of Night in the Forest.
     i)   "...and makes a net of sticky, dangling threads."
          dangling means That the school bell was handing on the bell.

     ii)  "...many native flowers are white to attract night flying moths and beetles."
          attract means That The gravitational force of the earth attracts smaller bodies to it.
     iii) "The kiwi is special."

          special means unique.

Whale Watch



  1. Max hoped to wear the dolphin necklace for good luck.
  2. Lester put the hydrophone to listen for whale
  3. Lester took them offshore because the water was deep and fulled with food.
  4. Lester couldn’t get any sounds of whales because they were asleep or far away.
  5. The words "We waited …and waited have been written in large print to make them stand out. Max's was feeling happy.
  6. The first clue max had was the rush of air that was the whale breathing. Today in class me and my group did whale watch in reading.

Ladybirds




Lady Birds

  1. Two insects the ladybird larvae eat are scale insects and aphids.
  2. Birds don’t eat ladybirds because they taste too terrible to be eaten to themselves.
  3. Ladybirds sometimes ooze bitter orange blood from their legs when they play dead.
  4. Play dead means they are pretending to be dead.

THE READING ROOM

  • The title refers to  the bathroom.

  • Italic is in the book Lisa is reading and standard is Lisa in the book

  • Mum finished on the telephone.

  • His feet feel like it was ice.

  • Lisa did not want to be found becuase she loved her book very much.
  • Lisa’s older sister looked for her everywhere. 

  • Then the mum finished on the telephone.

  • Lisa mum looked everywhere for Lisa becuase she was in the bathroom forevery.

  • Mark is a boy who is in Lisa’s reading book.

  • Lisa did not want to come out becuase she didn’t want to do work that her mum tells her to do.

  • Kathy is going to go to the libray to get some book for Lisa. 

  • Lisa is reading a really fun book. Lisa had good time becuase she is reading her book in the
  • bathroom. Lisa thinks that Mark will come alive becuase Mark is in the book. Lisa got the book
  • from the libray.

Today in class we did some reading and it  was super cool. So first we had to go around in groups and do what the teacher had said. Then next we had to put our hand up and the teacher has to write the word that we had said.  Next we had to ask the question and Josh had to pick me because I had to answer the question.
